Like all organisations, as a result of COVID-19 we’ve had to adapt what we do and how we do it. Although we have been unable to meet face to face since March, there has been progress on some projects in Shad Thames, even if things are moving more slowly than usual.
We continue to work with Southwark Council on improving the street lighting throughout the Shad Thames area and hope to see implementation in the first half of 2021. We have also been able to move forward with Phase 1 of the Shad Thames Business Network feasibility study, with Phase 2 scheduled for early 2021. Work on the long-standing project at Shad Thames Pumping Station should be completed by the end of 2020 and repair of the St Saviours Dock footbridge should also finish by end 2020/early 2021.
Looking to new developments, the six projects shortlisted for the London Festival of Architecture design competition aiming to reimagine Butler’s Wharf jetty were announced in October – details can be found here
The winner will be announced in December 2020.
There are also two developments in the planning stages in Shad Thames. TBC (Tower Bridge Court), at 224-226 Tower Bridge Road with frontage on Horselydown Lane, was scheduled to begin in autumn 2020 but work has been delayed. Below are images of the current building and the proposed redevelopment for which planning permission has been granted.
A planning application has also been made to refurbish and extend 22 Shad Thames, which has been the home of Conran offices for several decades. The building has now been sold, with Conran moving out by the end of 2020.
